What is the importance of quality management and the responsibility of HRM for it.



    Customers mean business to organizations. organizations cannot survive without customers. organization need to produce the goods and services required by the customers when they need them, and the quality they need at the price they are willing to pay. To meet the needs of the customers, the organizations, therefore, need to focus on gaining maximum quality at the minimum cost. This can be done only if the productivity of the organization is high as customer satisfaction has become an overriding priority.

"Quality management is focused not only on product and service quality, but also on the means to achieve it, Quality management, therefore, uses quality assurance and control of processes as well as products to achieve more consistent quality. What a customer wants and is willing to pay for it determines quality. It is a written or unwritten commitment to a know or unknow consumer in the market. Thus, quality can be defined as fitness for intended use or, in other words, how well the product performs its intended function" (Wikipedia, 2021).

Quality  refers to the ability of a product or service to consistently  meet or exceed customer  expectation .

There are so many other definitions of quality ,

ISO (International Organization  for Standardization-degree to which a set of inherent  characteristics fulfilling  requirements

Fitness  for use.

Satisfaction  of the needs of the customer.

Value for money  spent.

Conformance to requirement.

The totality  of the features  and characteristics of a product or service that has the ability to satisfy  stated  or implied  needs.


Total  Quality  Management  (TQM)

Total  quality  management  is a business management  strategy aimed at embedding  awareness  of quality  in all organizational  process .


Objectives  of maintaining  quality

 To enable to face challenges  of highly  competitive  global  market.

 Effectively  manage the product  life cycle1 that has reduced  due to technological  innovations and increasing  customer demands.

 To get it right the first time and get it more right the next  time.


What is the role of HRM in quality  management ?

Quality programs rely so heavily on well-trained, committed employees. therefore it is the responsibility of HRM of every organization, to make sure to train its employees accordingly products or services which produce by the organization and also develop employee's skills to gain quality productivity.

"Empirical studies have shown that HRM practices like training  and development, employee career  planning ,and recruiting and selection  have the greatest significant influences  on the implementation  of total quality  management " (Erts, 2020).

"All human resources subsystems-training. communications and compensation-are aligned with the overall quality effort" (Coudron, 1993)

Conclusion

HRM plays a major role in quality management. A common practice is to start with the top management and then train the other employees. In addition, performance needs to be measured and reviewed against goals, achievement rewarded and recognized and compensation to be linked to employee progress.

  1. Employees must be guided, trained and developed to assure the quality of the product or the service provided by the organization. This helps the company on high productivity, performance and employer brand.
    According to CFI,(2021),
    Quality management is not simply a concept but a process with Planning, improvement, control and assurance.

Furthermore, performance must be assessed and reviewed in relation to goals, accomplishments must be rewarded and recognized, and compensation must be tied to employee advancement.

  8. Quality of a product or a service is the key to enhance the customer experience. With happy customers, there’ll be less complaints and negative feedbacks which the internal staff will have to handle. Also, the quality of a product or a service help increase the reputation of the organisation, which ultimately help compete well and sustain in the industry for a longer period of time.
